Magritte: The Mystery of the Ordinary

"Extra Credit 1"

In Rene Magritte’s exhibit “The Mystery of the Ordinary,” at the M.O.M.A, there were many works of art that touches the line between reality and fantasy. The work I chose was “Les Amants.” It shows two lovers kissing with a cloth over their heads. The reality of this work is what most people do everything and that’s kiss. The fantasy in the art work is that nobody kisses while having cloths wrapping around their heads. The elements the artist use to relate to out waking reality is people kissing. The elements the artist uses to negate or deny our understanding of reality is how the two people have cloths wrapped around their heads.  In my opinion, the altered perception of reality shows how people kiss but by having cloth wrapped around your heads it seems pointless because nobody does this in real life.
