Design in Our Lives

“Field Trip 3”

High Functionality

The “Canabalt” by Adam Saltsmen and Daniel Baranowsky, I would say is a high functionality. The reason why is that the video game software shows how long you can focus on keeping with the speed of the game. The longer you are playing the faster it gets. Furthermore, it also shows how fast is you reaction time with pushing the buttons at the right time so you can make it to the next building.

The “Health Chair” by The Ironrite Ironer, in my opinion is a high function. The reason why it’s high in functionality is that it works for resting and comfortable. The chair in the present life time has been getting better and better. Some chairs and can be folded and taking to many places, others have wheels and are mobile to take you to places or help people that can’t walk explore what’s around them so they won’t miss a thing.

What my two high functionality objects have in common is the both have good use and have improved as life progresses. The video game software in the present not only it’s for enjoyment but also adult and children learn from it, not only numbers and ABC’s but everyday things like driving, cooking, etc. The chair has been improving as well. Many chairs are good for transporting people from place to place and also for relaxing your body in many ways.

Low Functionality

The “Table with Wheels” by Gae Autenti, in my opinion is low functionality. The reason is that tables like these are usually use for heavy lifting but by this having a glassed flatbed its mostly used for light lifting and that we can do it on our own. What I would change to make this better is to change the glassed surface put harder one like metal or wood and also ass a handle to it so it can be dragged to any place

The “Honey-Pop Armchair” by Tokujin Yoshioka is a low functionality object. The reason why is because it’s made out of paper and won’t support any human weight or any heavy object that you put on it. The things I would change to make this chair better is make it out of harder materials like wood or metal and add other multi uses like cup holders and things of that matter.

What my two low functionality have in common was both were not really used for anything but just for displaying purposes. An Object does not need to be highly functional in order to be a good design because it all depends on the artist way of thinking an interpreting the object. Art and design are not always two separate ideas because art is when its done and design is how its going to look.
